About Me

If you look up collaboratrix in the Urban Dictionary, you’ll find this: part muse, part catalyst, part collaborator….someone you bring into the mix when you feel something is missing, but you’re not quite sure what.

That’s me.

Hi there, I’m Susan.

Writer. Teacher. Word nerd.

I help you improve your DIY website copywriting skills, so that your message gets across to the right people

I help you gain clarity on what to write about, and why your website visitors need to hear it

I help you develop your own authentic voice so that you can communicate with your ideal clients… without resorting to manipulative tactics

I offer you an accountability partner, cheerleader, and sounding board, so you don’t have to do this all alone

Where can I make the most impact? Where can I be the most generous with my skillset? How can I best help people? These are the questions that lead my business.

My career, or my work in the outside world, has always defined me to a great extent. There are pros and cons to this, of course- but this close connection between work and sense of self means that I always bring a lot of my personal values to work with me, and am guided by them.

Authenticity

I choose to work with small businesses and solopreneurs because that’s who I am, too. There are no false pretences here, and I won’t write them into my copy, either. I believe in telling the truth, being direct, and avoiding manipulative tactics. What you see is what you get!

Generosity

I believe that we’re better together- that when we share our talents and skills with others, everyone benefits. Part of my business philosophy is to do things to surprise and delight the people I work with…and to lead with generosity!

Ethics

One thing the enlightened folk over at the ethical move advise is to put the person before the sale. My promise as an ethical writer (and human!) is to help you make the best decisions for your needs, not mine.  I’ll also encourage you to optimize your offers to best serve the needs of your own clients.

Solutions

I aim to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. I recognize that in order to break the cycle of consumerism which is crippling our planet, and threatening the future of upcoming generations, marketing needs to change. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, and I remain open to new information, new practices, and new ways of communicating to reflect these values. One important step away from manipulation is to consider the people you serve to be capable of making their own decisions. Your job then becomes giving them all the information they need to make the best decision for themselves- which sometimes means working with someone else.

Many people think they need to have their whole business figured out before they write the website- I see the website as the way to get it all figured out!

I love that every time I collaborate on a website, I learn something new, either about the kinds of work people are doing, or about the kind of world they want to live in.

And I see creating or refreshing a website as an opportunity to gain clarity about your business through the process of writing about it.

There is room for all voices. I help you find yours, so that you can get to work creating the world you want to live in.
